Kate, the Princess of Wales, is marking one year since publicly announcing that her cancer is in remission, another milestone in her journey since revealing her cancer diagnosis two years ago.

It was on Jan. 14, 2025, that Kate released a statement on social media, writing, “It is a relief to now be in remission and I remain focused on recovery.”

“As anyone who has experienced a cancer diagnosis will know, it takes time to adjust to a new normal. I am however looking forward to a fulfilling year ahead,” she continued at the time. “There is much to look forward to.”

Kate, 44, has never revealed the type of cancer with which she was diagnosed or any details of her treatment beyond saying publicly, when she first announced her diagnosis in March 2024, that she would undergo preventive chemotherapy.

Kate, who is married to Prince William and shares three children with him, largely stayed out of the public eye during her cancer journey.

After announcing her cancer was in remission, Kate slowly began to resume public duties and appears to be picking up the pace even more so this year, according to ABC News royal contributor Victoria Murphy.

“This year feels very different to last year,” Murphy said. “Last year was a very gradual return to work, and she emphasized that it can be really difficult to get back to normal. But this year, I feel like she’s really kind of set the tone for being ready to be more visible.”

Already this month, Kate joined William on a visit to a West London hospital to highlight the work of National Health Service staff and volunteers.

On her 44th birthday, Jan. 9, Kate shared the final installment of her “Mother Nature” video series, which she launched in 2025 to reflect on the power of nature.

Sharing the video on social media, Kate wrote in a personal message, “The Mother Nature series has been a deeply personal, creative reflection on how nature has helped me heal. But it is also a story about the power of nature and creativity in collective healing.”

“There is so much we can learn from mother nature, as we look to build a happier, healthier world,” she continued, signing the message with her initial “C,” indicating she wrote the message herself.

Kate is also set to host the England women’s rugby team at Windsor Castle on Thursday. Up next, Kate and William will travel to Scotland on Jan. 20, according to Kensington Palace.

Amid her public-facing work, according to Murphy, Kate is primarily focused on her and William’s three kids, George, 12, Charlotte, 10, and Louis, 7.

“She knows that she has her biggest role ahead of her as queen, but that weight is not yet on her shoulders,” Murphy said. “This really is still a time when she can balance her public duties with continuing to focus on her family, which is something that is very important to her, particularly while her children are young.”
