Costco is taking steps to make fertility treatments cheaper for members after announcing a new partnership that could make fertility drugs 80% less expensive.
The partnership between Costco, Sesame and IVI RMA was announced March 9.
According to a news release, Costco members will gain immediate access to Sesame fertility care coordination as part of their monthly membership agreement to complete diagnostic workups and a clear path to special treatment.
“The collaboration delivers widespread access to high-quality fertility care and advanced reproductive medicine specialists, affordable and competitive pricing, and coordinated care throughout the fertility journey,” the companies said.
Every Sesame patient receives a comprehensive intake evaluation, coordinated diagnostic support and a referral to highly-experienced specialty care with IVI RMA North America when clinically appropriate, the release states.
Costco will fulfill fertility medications with exclusive member pricing that includes savings of up to 80% on medications, including Follistim, an injectable hormone medication used to treat infertility.
“This dramatically reduces one of the biggest out-of-pocket expenses in fertility care, saving patients thousands of dollars on each cycle. One in six people suffers from infertility, according to the World Health Organization,” the companies said.
According to the Purdue University College of Pharmacy, a 650 IU cartridge of Follistim runs about $1,268, and a 900 IU cartridge runs about $1,346.
Additional discounts are available through IVI RMA if specialty care is advised. The company provides high-acuity specialty care, including in vitro fertilization (IVF) and intrauterine insemination (IUI), the release states. A Sesame clinician works with patients throughout their care for medical guidance, including medical terminology translation, emotional support and care coordination.
“Our partnership with Sesame and IVI RMA reflects our commitment to transparent and affordable solutions that reduce barriers, are more accessible, and more affordable for our members,” said Richard Stephens, Senior Vice President of Pharmacy at Costco. “By combining transparent pricing with coordinated care, we’re removing the barriers that have historically kept quality fertility treatment out of reach for too many families.”
