In 2022, the founder of software company Domo stepped down as CEO after he was accused of sexually assaulting an employee on a work trip, an allegation he denied. A year later, he came back to lead the company.Since then, the troubles of the once-hot startup have worsened, rocked by executive departures, new competition from AI agents, and the drunken-driving arrest of its founder and CEO, Josh James.James was arrested last year on a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol after crashing his BMW into a mailbox, according to bodycam footage and a police report reviewed by Business…
BNP Paribas analysts recently spotted a striking contradiction. Even though Cloudflare cut 20% of its workforce earlier this year, the tech company’s engineering ranks have surged.Cloudflare employed 1,308 engineers in December. That figure has climbed to 1,894, a 45% jump, according to data BNP crunched from LinkedIn.I ran the numbers past Cloudflare CEO Matthew Prince, who confirmed the trend. So why would a company slash so many jobs while ramping up engineering hiring? His answer reflects how AI is changing the structure of companies across the tech industry, and potentially beyond.Prince’s first takeaway: AI ain’t killing tech jobs. That’s backed…
Conno Christou doesn’t leave things to chance. He tracks his sleep with a Whoop band, cross-references it with an Oura ring, and gets nearly 100 biomarkers checked every year. He had been doing the annual bloodwork for four consecutive years, following the protocols of longevity researchers like Peter Attia and Rhonda Patrick. He was optimizing his supplements, his circadian rhythm, his protein intake. At 35, building his second company, he was as dialed-in on the latest in health research as anyone he knew. His last checkup, in 2025, was green across the board. “It was the best I’d had in…
Anthropic says it is getting partial relief from the US-imposed restrictions on its latest AI models. The company said in a statement that the government had greenlit limited access to Mythos 5 on Friday. Fable 5, meanwhile, remains on ice.”Since June 12, we’ve been working closely with the US government to restore access to Claude Mythos 5 and Fable 5. Today, the government notified us that Mythos 5, our strongest cybersecurity model, can be redeployed to a set of US organizations that operate and defend critical infrastructure,” Anthropic said in its statement.”We’re restoring access for these organizations quickly, and we’re continuing…
On Wednesday, Chinese cybersecurity firm 360 reportedly unveiled Tulongfeng, an AI tool it says can go head-to-head with Anthropic’s Mythos. That’s the cybersecurity-focused AI model that is reportedly so powerful, the Trump Administration has currently banned it and its more restricted version, Fable 5, from the hands of non-Americans. Earlier the same week Sakana AI, a Tokyo-based AI startup launched Fugu, a model named after the Japanese word for blowfish. The company says this frontier AI model “stands shoulder-to-shoulder with leading models like Anthropic’s Fable 5 and Mythos Preview.” It is also designed for agents, with an ability to orchestrate…
“What’s for dinner?” is a question AI can now answer. One of DoorDash’s newest features lets users create an order using an AI chat. Customers generally describe what they want to eat or upload a photo of a shopping list or a recipe, and the feature, called “Ask DoorDash,” compiles the ingredients in a shopping cart.DoorDash introduced the AI search option earlier this month. It also plans to add a search option for restaurant reservations to the bot. Most big retailers and delivery services have created AI shopping assistants, from Amazon’s Alexa for Shopping to Walmart’s Sparky. Many function similarly to search…
For years, Google was considered perhaps the best job in tech. The company built a reputation for generous benefits, pay, and the opportunity to work on products used by billions of people. It remains a dream employer for many, but the AI boom has created new opportunities beyond Big Tech — and it’s not just superstar AI researchers leaving. Some rank-and-file Google employees have also decided their best path lies outside Google, whether that’s joining another employer, launching a startup, or pursuing an entirely different career.Business Insider interviewed six recent Google employees about why they left. Here’s what they told us.…
Jason Lemkin, known to some as the Godfather of SaaS, says people who want to work in tech face a stark choice in the current environment.”You don’t get to make 10 million for working 18 hours a week. You get a watch. You get an Omega,” Lemkin said during a recent episode of the 20VC podcast. “You want an Omega, or you want to be rich? Make your choice, boys.”Lemkin said that while some people can make remote work functional, he saw on his own team “it involved a lot of distractions.” He said in “the narrow universe” of companies,…
Apple’s entry-level laptop is getting a price hike, but a look at the numbers shows it’s still a very competitive deal. The Cupertino-based computer company said this week it was raising prices on many of its MacBooks by about 20% to offset rising memory chip costs. For higher-end models, that works out to a $300 increase, which could prompt some buyers to second-guess their need for a 14-inch MacBook Pro.But Apple’s initial bargain pricing for the Neo is likely to take a lot of the sting out of its $100 hike. Now at $699 (or $599 for students), the Neo packs considerable punch…
Two weeks into the ban that caused Anthropic to pull its powerful cybersecurity-oriented models, Mythos 5 and Fable 5, from the market, the Trump administration is softening its stance. It is now allowing Anthropic to make Mythos 5 available to more than 100 specific U.S. government agencies and companies, including allowing the non-American employees at those organizations to access to the model, both Semafor and Reuters report. This list also includes Anthropic’s own non-American employees, who were included in the original ban that forbade non-Americans from accessing the models. “I have determined that appropriate safeguards are in place to permit…
