How to Redeem an Amazon Gift Card

You can buy almost anything on Amazon, so an Amazon gift card is always a perfect gift when you’re unsure what to get someone. Amazon gift cards are helpful at any time of year, but even more so during Prime Day, which falls from July 8 to 11 this year. But gift cards are no help if you don’t know how to use them, so we’ve broken down the easiest ways to redeem an Amazon gift card right here.

There are a few avenues for redeeming an Amazon gift card and checking the balance on an existing one. The best one for you will likely depend on whether you prefer to shop on the web or use the Amazon app.

Ahead, learn how to redeem an Amazon gift card on the Amazon website or app. Plus, we’ll answer a few frequently asked questions about using an Amazon gift card, including what to do if you can’t see the full code on your card.

How to add an Amazon gift card to your account

If you receive an Amazon gift card, the easiest way to redeem it is by going to the designated link. Log in to your account, enter your claim code, and click the Apply to your balance button.

There are other avenues — such as the Amazon app or the gift card section of Amazon’s site — which you can use as well.

Quick tip: Have a Roblox gift card that you want to redeem as well? You’ll have to use a browser rather than the app.

How to redeem an Amazon gift card via the app

These steps work for both the iPhone and Android apps.

1. Open the Amazon shopping app, and tap the person icon to access your account information.

2. On this page, scroll down to where it says Gift Card Balance, and tap the arrow next to it.

3. You’ll be brought to a new page where you can redeem a gift card or add a balance to an existing one using your credit or debit card. Tap Redeem another gift card to activate your gift card by entering its code or scanning it.

Quick tip: If you want to keep your gift card loaded with money so it never runs out, you can also select the Your Auto-Reload Setting option and create a schedule. There isn’t really any benefit to doing this, but the option is there if you want it.

Alternatively, you can redeem a new gift card straight from the checkout page. In the Payment information section, just type or scan your gift card number.

How to redeem an Amazon gift card via the website

The process is pretty similar if you go through Amazon’s website.

1. Head to Amazon, and hover your mouse over the Account & Lists option in the top-right. Click Account.

2. Choose Gift Cards.

3. You’ll see your current gift card balance and transaction history. To redeem a new gift card, click Redeem a Gift Card and enter its code.

Quick tip: Just like on the mobile app, you can set up an “auto-reload” schedule so your gift card never runs out of money. Head back to the Gift Card Balance page, and click Set up Auto-reload.

You can also redeem an Amazon gift card right from the checkout page. Under Add a gift card or promotion code or voucher, type your gift card number, and click Apply.

How to acquire an Amazon gift card

If you want to get an Amazon gift card for yourself or someone else, here’s what you’ll need to do:

1. Go to the Amazon gift cards page, and make sure you’re logged in to your account.

2. Click on the Amazon Gift Cards section. You can choose between eGift cards, physical gift cards, and printing a gift card at home. You can also browse by occasion.

3. Alternatively, you can choose Reload your balance, located toward the top of the page. From there, you can directly add funds to an existing Amazon gift card.

How to find your Amazon gift card balance

Knowing your gift card balance is important if you plan on using it to cover certain expenses. You can check your Amazon gift card balance using either the desktop or mobile version of Amazon. In either case, you’ll have to navigate to your account information and then head to the gift card section.

Amazon gift card FAQs

Do I need to have an Amazon account to redeem a gift card?

Yes, you’ll need an Amazon account to make any purchase on Amazon, whether you’re using a gift card or not.

I can’t see the entire code on the gift card — what do I do?

In that case, you’d have to contact Amazon for help. You’ll have to provide the 16- or 30-digit serial number of the card, your order number (if you know it), the purchaser’s name, the recipient’s name, and the email address or physical address where the gift card was sent.
