OpenAI launched ChatGPT Health on Wednesday.
Users will be able to connect medical records and wellness apps to personalize health information.
OpenAI says the tool supports care decisions but does not replace clinicians.

ChatGPT Health is officially here.

OpenAI announced the new product on Wednesday, describing it as a “dedicated experience that securely brings your health information and ChatGPT’s intelligence together.”

The move has been underway since at least November, when sources told Business Insider that OpenAI was looking into building its own consumer health tools.

The company said health is already one of the most common use-cases for ChatGPT, with more than 230 million people worldwide asking health and wellness questions each week.

Users will be able to connect their medical records and wellness apps, such as Apple Health, MyFitnessPal, and Function, to help explain lab results, prepare for doctor visits, track wellness patterns, or compare insurance options.

OpenAI said ChatGPT Health is designed not meant to diagnose or treat conditions and isn’t a replacement for doctors or medical care. In October, the company updated its policies to say it can’t be used for a “provision of tailored advice that requires a license, such as legal or medical advice, without appropriate involvement by a licensed professional.”

OpenAI said the product was developed with input from more than 260 physicians across 60 countries and dozens of specialties and will operate as a separate space inside ChatGPT. Conversations, files, and connected apps are isolated from other chats, with added encryption, and conversations in Health are not used to train ChatGPT’s foundation models. Users will be able to view or delete health memories and disconnect apps at will.

Access is rolling out first to a small group of users on free and paid plans outside Europe and the UK. OpenAI said it plans to expand availability to all users in the coming weeks.
