Indeed released its latest Labor Market Update, which took a look at junior versus senior roles in recent job postings. The big takeaway: Senior roles are more dominant in tech.

Employers want specialized talent, and opportunities advertised specifically to beginners have been scarce lately.

Some highlights below:

In the tech and engineering, senior-level roles dominate. As of August, fewer than 2% of postings in these fields were for junior roles.Software development roles: 30.7% advertise senior titles, while 2% advertise junior titles.Data & Analytics: 24.2% advertise senior titles; 3.4% advertise junior titles.IT Systems/Solutions: 23.6% advertise senior titles; 2.8% advertise junior titles.

And here’s a cool chart with even more details. Thanks to BI’s creative graphics team for this one!

Chart showing percentage of job postings for junior vs. senior roles. Software development ranks highest for senior roles, with 30.7% of postings for senior roles compared with just 2% for junior roles.
