A baby and toddler food company is expanding an earlier voluntary recall of food pouches due to potentially elevated lead levels.
Sprout Organics announced Tuesday that the company is recalling additional lots of its Sprout Organics Sweet Potato Apple and Spinach 3.5-ounce food pouches.
The company previously recalled one lot of its Sprout Organics Sweet Potato Apple and Spinach food pouches on Sept. 16.
The recall was initiated after routine sampling, the company said.

Although the amount of lead potentially in the food pouches hasn’t been specified, Sprout Organics said “exposure to lead, even at low levels, may increase blood lead levels,” and that the effects of lead exposure “depend upon the amount and duration of exposure and age/body weight” but can include “learning and development” issues or “other long-term health problems.”

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, there is no safe amount of blood lead level in children and “even low levels of lead in blood are associated with developmental delays, difficulty learning, and behavioral issues.”

Sprout Organics said in its expansion announcement that there have been no known illnesses associated with recalled food pouches to date and none of its other products are impacted by the recall.
Recalled food pouches include “best by” dates of Oct. 29, 2025; Oct. 30, 2025; Dec. 4, 2025; and Feb. 4, 2026.
Impacted lot dates include 4212, 4213, 4282 and 4310.

The recalled food pouches were sold online, as well as in Walgreens stores and independent retailers in 28 states, including Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Massachusetts, Maine, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Wisconsin and Wyoming.
Sprout Organics said in its earlier announcement that the recalled food pouches labeled with lot code 4212 were sold between September and December 2024.
The company did not specify when the products included in the expanded recall may have been purchased.
